Poetry For October

the Bodies artist statement –

The poem is set in a club, immersing readers in an atmosphere of untethered spirit, haze, and euphoria. It paints a picture of individuals moving together in rhythm, creating a unified energy—the bodies. The speaker, a girl, is absorbed in this scene and experiences a moment of enchantment or desire with another girl. However, their connection is disrupted by the surrounding bodies, which embody the male gaze. This gaze pressures the girls into performative roles, creating tension between their desires, and the desires of the bodies.
